Five (5) years ago today, I received the keys to The Knotted Apron. I remember walking into the building and asking myself. “What did you get yourself into?” I was nervous and excited. At first I was not confident enough to teach the cooking classes. I would hire other chefs to conduct the classes for me. Staff only consisted of my little sister and myself. This meant it was only the two of us working all the events and classes. We had extremely long working days. We would arrive at 1pm to set up and close up around 3am-6am to get ready for the following day. It was tough and I wanted to give up at times. Little by little with the help of the Mayor of Whittier, The Whittier Association and my fellow business owners my business grew and I was able to add staff. I was relieved and kept pushing to make more business contacts. My business grew through positive referrals and community support. Two years into a growing business my family was faced with a terrible tragedy. My first and only son passed away. I. didn’t know what to do. I wanted to give up my heart was full of sorrow and not into my business anymore. I wanted to give up and close the business. However, I knew my son would be disappointed if I did. So a few months after, I gained the confidence to start teaching the cooking classes myself and brought on new staff to manage my events. My life changed. My passion for cooking was revitalized and I loved it. My kids became my motivation and I haven’t stopped since. I’m so grateful for the memories and the wonderful friendships that have developed because of my business. I am so happy and blessed to have made it to five years. I look forward to the next five. Thank you all for embracing me and my business. I love and thank you all. #bemindfulbekind #5yearanniversary
